The verification of hearing aid fittings is conducted to ensure that their gain and output are correct. Each hearing instrument programming can only be verified employing Real-Ear Measurement (REM), adjusting the sound measurements just in front of the tympanic membrane via the REM probe measurement tube, using validated prescriptive targets displayed via a probe microphone system, matching the output to these targets using a calibrated input signal (e.g. ISTS) delivered at soft, medium and loud levels.
REM should not be viewed as being overly technically difficul: it’s not that hard!
To feel more comfortable, we need lean into our gear, get to know it, roll up our sleeves and try things out!
Last October 26th, Clayton Fisher, clinical audiologist and audiology consultant and owner of Treat Hearing Health Care, managed the webinar "Roll up your sleeves: (Hands-on) REM basics with CARL”.
During the course, the speaker provided pragmatic tips-and-tricks for learning the basic, hands-on techniques and skills required to become competent and confident in performing and interpreting REM. Clayton demonstrates these essential REM procedures by performing a complete hearing aid fitting on audiology simulator CARL, using our Trumpet REM system.
Let yourself be guided in a hearing aid fitting session!
Watch the webinar “Roll up your sleeves: (Hands-on) REM basics with CARL” published on Inventis Partner Pages in Audiologyonline!
After this course, participants will be able to:
Start a friendship with your REM system. It will last a lifetime!

From January 17-21, we participated in IFOS, the ENT World Congress, in Dubai.
The congress brought together more than 6,000 experts from all over the world thanks also to a rich scientific program. It was definitely a great success, including for us, since we had the opportunity to show the new Maestro Control Panel , give demos of our balance equipment and meet our partners of the area.
In addition, Dr. Armato, who was also a speaker at IFOS, was invited by our UAE partner, Al-Shomoukh Trading for Technical & Medical Supplies Co. to give a private training on SYNAPSYS VHIT focusing on more clinical aspects to 30 invited professionals from the UAE and Palestine.
The presentation lasted more than two hours with great active participation and many questions directed to the doctor, who concluded by giving everyone a copy of his book entitled "The Video Head Impulse Test."
During this course, Elizabeth Thompson, clinical audiologist, innovator, entrepreneur, owner and founder of Hickory Audiology in Bloomington Indiana, will discuss the setup of the real-ear equipment in a real office environment, how to structure patient appointments for measuring patient outcomes, integrating real-ear measures with hearing aid adjustments and what to look for in hearing aid fitting...... In collaboration with VIS - Vestibology Italian Society directed by Prof. Augusto Pietro Casani, we announce the webinar “Selective canal impairment on video-HIT in peripheral vestibular diseases”.
The introduction of modern tools assessing otolith and ampullary reflexes in the high-frequency domain (VEMPs and video-HIT, respectively) has enabled a fast functional analysis of all inner ear receptors, offering new interpretations for end-organs and afferents abnormalities detected in patients with cochleo-vestibular pathologies.
The literature review highlights how vestibular disorders could result in specific lesion patterns, including selective dysfunctions involving a single receptor.
A series of patients with isolated impairment of a semicircular canal at the video-HIT will be presented and discussed. Each selective canal dysfunction will be correlated to the remaining clinical-instrumental data and related inner ear pathology. The underlying hypothetical pathomechanism accounting for each single scenario will be provided, with the help of pertinent bibliographic support.
